Every Day's a Holiday

When the layoff notice came, I was surprised
I didn't think I'd be the one to get downsized
I cleaned my desk and drove home, cranked up the stereo
Buffett, Byrd, and Marley, couple shots of Cuervo
I had the time I dreamed of, while at my desk all day
So I went exploring beaches, found some new ways to play

CHORUS
Every Day is a Holiday
Got no work and got no pay
Leisure time's just a state of mind
When Every Day's a Holiday

I got re-employed to afford Pacifico and pizzas
And crammed the rest of my life back into nights and weekends
They can rent my body; the rest is mine to play with
I'll keep vacation thinking whether in my cube or sailing
Got steel drums on my iPod, beach pictures on the wall
Patron and parrots on my mind; all I need is salt

CHORUS
Every Day is a Holiday
Taking work and making it play
Leisure time's just a state of mind
When Every Day's a Holiday

Going Coastal

Slavin' at the swamp mine
Unexpected overtime
Boss is turning purple again
Nothing's going normally
I'm smiling diplomatically
And getting good at counting to ten.
Don't think I can take any more
Jump in the car; head for the shore

	CHORUS:
I'm Going Coastal...before I lose my mind
I'm going coastal...and leave this madness behind
There ain't much the matter with me
That couldn't be cured by a week by the sea
Stop this insanity
I'm going coastal...

Playing bumper shopping cart
At the local Wal-mart
Grumbling words I might regret
Rushing for an interview
When a rear tire blew;
Tell me, are we having fun yet?
I need a shoreline warm and clear
If I could just blow on out of here

	(REPEAT CHORUS)

	BRIDGE
Pass the tequila and no one gets hurt
I'm trading this Maalox day for a tropical shirt

	(Repeat chorus & end)

Clueless in Key Largo

Woke up this morning with a sunburn in a strange hotel
My mind was a blank and my mouth was dry as hell
The towels said it was a Holiday Inn
Down at the docks, I saw the African Queen
The last thing I remembered was her last word: goodbye

CHORUS
Now I don't know what I'm doing here
Might be my broken heart or too many beers
Guess it beats freezing in Fargo
I'm clueless in Key Largo
Feels like I've come undone
Taking refuge in this place in the sun
Odds are I'll be here tomorrow
Clueless in Key Largo

VERSE 2
Sitting at the tiki bar, getting my bearings
Clutching a cold one, almost past the point of caring
Think I'll stay for a couple of days and see the sights
After I'm done killing some pain tonight
Tomorrow I could go fishing, wishing she told me why

CHORUS: Cause I don't know...

BRIDGE
Seems like the best kind of place
To be in the worst kind of way

CHORUS: Cause I don't know...

Mental Health Day

Been working way too hard for way too long sweating for the corporate dime
I'm feeling kinda wrecked; it's a side effect of insufficient leisure time
Made my diagnosis; prescribed a remedy
Faked a cough, called my office, told 'em I needed time for me

CHORUS
I took a Mental Health Day
Medicinal dose of too much fun
I took a Mental Health Day
Don't need to hear no voices tell me, "Clean your guns"
On a Mental Health Day

Slept in late, watered the garden, noodled on a couple songs
Had lunch with a few good friends I hadn't seen in way too long
Fishing pole by the water, sun sparkling waves
Made a date with a special someone; sunset in my favorite place

CHORUS
I took a Mental Health Day
Spread a blanket on God's green lap
Taking a Mental Health Day
Getting relief from the corporate crap
On a Mental Health Day

Called my boss, said, "I'm improving
I think I found a perfect cure
But I'm gonna take off a few more days - just to be sure"

CHORUS
Taking a Mental Health Day
It's the smartest thing I can do
Taking a Mental Health Day
Heading down island for a week or two
On a Mental Health Day

Rainy Day in Paradise

Picking at my runny eggs; staring through the rain
Trying not to notice that empty chair again
Palm trees and mimosas and whitecaps on the bay
I had my reservations, but I came here anyway
And it hurts to be both missing and trying to forget the feel of your arms

CHORUS
On a Rainy Day in Paradise
Just might learn some lessons
From this tropical depression
Wasting away under soggy skies
Trying not to wish you were here
Think I'll have another beer
On this rainy day in Paradise	(2x)

I feel the wind shifting; might see the sun shine soon
Steel band playing our song; it's still my favorite tune
Got my toes tapping; calypso on my mind
As long as I'm sitting here, I might as well have a good time
And it wouldn't be the worst thing if I forget to go home

CHORUS
On a Rainy Day in Paradise
Think my pain is lessening
From this tropical depression
Wasting away under soggy skies
Trying to be thankful that I'm here
Think I'll have another beer
On this rainy day in Paradise	(2x)

BRIDGE:
Being down here in this paradise is
Not the worst way to have a midlife crisis

CHORUS
On a Rainy Day in Paradise
Think I've learned some lessons
From this tropical depression
Wasting away under soggy skies
Time to be thankful that I’m here
Think I'll have another beer
On this rainy day in Paradise	(2x)

Sunshine in the Rain

L. Davidson & M.A. Barnette

Bare feet on a sun-warmed dash; waving at people three cars back
It's a parking lot on I-55
She don't mind a bit that we've been sitting here since 10
Says, "Ain't it great to be alive!"
By myself, I'd prob'ly blow up if I could
But nothing's that bad when love's this good

	CHORUS:
She can find the needle in a haystack
Got the patience of a saint
She lets it all roll off her back
She's all the things I ain't
Sees the good in everything
She sees the sunshine in the rain

Boss came to dinner last night; had him over the very first time
She turned a roast into a lump of coal
I was about to lose it all, but Little Miss Unflappable
Had a back-up plan that I didn't know
Guess Mrs. Stouffer saved the day
And now it looks like I just got a raise

	CHORUS

	BRIDGE
I remember being lonely and broke; I was angry at the world
Somebody said hello; I looked up into the eyes of this smiling girl

	REPEAT CHORUS and end

I Need a Weekend (to Recover from my Weekend)

Friday workday felt like a freak show
Wanted to toss my boss out a window
Headed out to adjust my attitude
Buying rounds, jukebox playing
Things got fuzzy, in a fun kind of way, and
Can't quite remember what I was doing
Monday dawns like a warm, stale beer
Stare at my in-box; wish I wasn't here

CHORUS
I need a weekend to recover from my weekend
Can't escape this Monday morning shade of grey
I need a weekend to recover from my weekend
Don't want to wait five more days

This morning, I feel like the hell I was raising
Friday and Saturday night out late, and
Hanging out poolside Sunday with Lynchburg Lemonades
I feel like I'm moving in double slow motion
Like trying to walk at the bottom of the ocean
I'm having a bad hair of the dog that bit me day
Little hammers pound in my head
Just wish I could go back to bed

CHORUS
I need a weekend to recover from my weekend
Can't escape this Monday morning shade of grey
I need a weekend to recover from my weekend
Don't want to wait five more days

Raspberry Rum

Sun is shining; breezes blowing
I'm supposed to work, but I ain't going
I'd like to tempt you to come out and play, mmm-hmmm
Let's break our diets and get into trouble
Bottle of raspberry rum and some truffles
You bring the blankets; we'll have some fun
And I'll bring the raspberry rum

	CHORUS
Raspberry rum; raspberry rum
Come over here and I'll give you some
Intoxicating celebrating
You, me, and raspberry rum

It's kind of sassy, fruity and heady
You can taste it whenever you're ready
I'll serenade you beneath a tree, mmm-hmmm
Lie on our backs, clouds in the sky
I see a dragon; you see butterflies
Leaning over for a raspberry kiss
It don't get much better than this

	REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE
Green grass, blue skies, time for the taking
Raspberry rum-flavored memories we're making
Breathless chases in this place ain't a waste of this...razzlebee day!

	REPEAT CHORUS

I Don't Care (if the Plane Don't Come)

Holiday week is over
In the concourse waiting
Full of sun and island rum
Dreaming of expatriating
Island time be left behind
Suit and tie ahead
I'm gonna pray that the plane go astray
And I'll stay here instead

CHORUS
I don't care (if the plane don't)/ I don't care (if the plane don't)
Bm	G D
I don't care / If the plane don't come (2x)

Sat beneath a palm tree
Every single day
Sipping fruity rum drinks
Now I'm going away
Soon come Monday morning
And that old 9 to 5
I could hide in a car or a tiki bar
And they won't take me alive

	CHORUS

BRIDGE
Plane, plane, go away; come again some other day (3x)
Plane, plane, go away; come again some other day

Repeat chorus & end

What It Is

I was reading your old love letters again
Strange fascination, like watching a wrecking train
Even if it was the one that hit me, it might help get me moving on
Had dinner last night in the sushi joint from our first date
Just me and my memories, and salmon sashimi on my plate
I raised a toast to might-have-beens, paid the check and I went home
Well, I could be sad, 'cause we're no longer together
But I'm thankful we made good times to remember

CHORUS
And it is what it is, is what it is, is what it is -- And it's all good
It is what it is, is what it is, is what it is -- And it's all good

Rain complaining on the window, 'cause it wants to come in
I feel the place shaking, like a wet dog in the wind
I came down here to get away, ease the pain; Nature had other plans
I wanted to wander under palm trees in the sun
Washing you away in the ocean and island rum
But I'm staying in, made some new friends at the bar, in a steel drum band
It's not the journey I thought it might be
But I believe I'm getting the healing I need

CHORUS
And it is what it is, is what it is, is what it is -- And it's all good
It is what it is, is what it is, is what it is -- And it's all good

BRIDGE
I'd hate to break my heart again, and I'm thinking that it might be too soon
But this lady's smiling sweetly, and I'd love to go walking under a full moon

CHORUS
And it is what it is, is what it is, is what it is -- And it’s all good
It is what it is, is what it is, is what it is -- And it’s all good
